Also, shop around a bit for the spring compressor tool because the tool goes for anywhere from $60 to $25 for the same tool. Anyone with enough savvy and tools to rebuild a motor can rebuild a 350THM.Stand by and I'll find that thread, there are several guys on here that have rebuilt THM350's and would help walk you through a rebuild, including myself. The thread also has some links to some parts suppliers that I still use today. Let me find that thread for you because the 350THM is one of the easiest automatic transmissions to rebuild and learn on. He indicated that he would walk me through the rebuild and that the rebuild would cost less than half the $1800 including purchasing a couple of tools necessary to help the rebuild go smoothly and correctly. When I commented on here the symptoms Clinebarger responded with a couple questions a after I answered what it was and wasn't doing he knew exactly what had happened and sure enough, after opening up the trans he was correct. Transmissions have always been a dark science to me so like you I opted for a rebuilt 350THM from "Monster Transmission" for $1800, this was a stage II build nothing extraordinary and after a few hard miles it began to slip and blew the low reverse clutch into pieces. Five years ago I retired my trade after 40 years and acquired a couple of 72 C/10's and delved right into the restoration of both trucks. He was involved with GM and the development of the THM transmissions from way back, the man knew his shet and was a great asset to this forum. Howdy from Nebraska Scott, there use to be a gentleman on here named "Clinebarger", he was the resident Turbo-Hydramatic expert until he left us. So I was trying to get an idea on prices. Same shop did a complete swap/rebuild on my son's 2004 4l60 for $1400. Times change and prices go up but I did not realize they were that much. I called a shop and it was $1100 if I delivered the transmission. The last one I had done was $500 and that was pulled, built and re-installed. Short story long is that shop will not work on my little red wagon, much less anything else. I was in service at the time and it would be months before I was back home. Two weeks later I picked up the truck and the bill was $512. One month to the day, the transmission slipped in reverse and then would not pull forward. Two days later the alternator died and then I saw the speaker wire. They clipped the pinched wire and spliced it with speaker wire. ![]() Fried the hot cable from the battery to the starter. We snatched the batter cable off and the starter wires were pinched between the bell housing. I pulled in my drive and the truck would not cut off, continued to try to re-crank. I picked the truck up and paid $529 (that price alone shows how long ago it was, complete kits were like $99 back then). We agreed to come off the price of the rebuild o our final number. I was in the process of buying a truck once and the transmission died. ![]() One I had a bad experience with and will drive distance to the next guy.
